JUNE

bulletJune 1 – September 1, 2008    MOTORCYCLE MEMORIES, The Fort Smith Museum of History, in Fort Smith , Arkansas , is planning a summer exhibit for 2008 called “Motorcycle Memories.”   The exhibit will be on display just in time for the Arkansas Hog Rally, which will be held in Fort Smith in June. This exhibit is intended to educate future generations about a fascinating spectrum of Americana , and to publicize the great motorcycling experience that Western Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma offer.  Fort Smith is a great stop for cross-country bikers and those traveling back and forth to Sturgis.  It’s a short detour off I-40, which dissects the nation, running east and west.   Fort Smith has its own share of “Motorcycle Memories.”  The Winters family, Quinn, Leroy, and Robert were early motorcycle enthusiasts.  If you bought a bike in Fort Smith during the 1950’s, you probably bought it from Quinn Winters.  Leroy Winters later owned “Leroy’s Cycle Shack,” and his many accomplishments as a racer earned him a place in the American Historical Motorcycle Association Hall of Fame.  Robert Winters took first place in the 250 Grand Prix, in 1966, riding a Yamaha, followed by a decade of pro racing.  He went on to stunt work as well as camera work in movies.  By 1975, he moved seriously into test-driving, riding for Kawasaki , and Goodyear.   Robert is a strong advocate of safety equipment and road safety.  Corey Winters, a third generation rider, is a flat-track AMA competitor who was named Rookie of the Year in 2004.  There are two young Winters currently riding the European racing circuit.  The Winters family definitely helped shape and change the sport of motorcycling.  It is through the efforts and support of Robert Winters that this fascinating exhibit is made possible.  Not only possible but OUTSTANDING!

September 7, 2008    SAVE THE DATE - The 2008 CT United Ride will be held on Sunday.  Please be advised that the 8th Annual CT United Ride is now on a new weekend date - Mark Your Calendars.  Through much thought, discussion, and input, we are moving our event to the weekend after Labor Day, rather than the normal weekend before. This will allow for our event to be closer to the actual 9/11 calendar date.  Our website will be updated soon with the new info at …. www.ctunitedride.com
